BioJapan 2010

Japan has a strong pharmaceutical industry which is the second largest in the world, a large healthcare sector under strong pressure to reduce costs, also a strong food industry, as well as a growing environmental sector. Thus, Japan places great importance on biotechnology. Japan’s biotechnology market was es-timated to have surpassed 2 trillion yen in 2007. On the policy side, the Japanese Government recognized the necessity of developing biotechnology as a national strategy for the welfare of its citizens as well as for maintaining national competitiveness, national economy, security and bioethics.
BioJapan is the longest-running international event in Asia in the field of fundamental and applied biotechnology research. Launched back in 1986, it has been held ten times. The aim of BioJapan is to provide a platform for the rapidly changing environment surrounding biotechnology and for networking between global key players of the bio industry. BioJapan 2010 will feature an exhibition, business partnering as well as seminars. The exhibitors consist of a well-balanced mixture of private companies, universities, overseas clusters, research institutes, governmental bodies as well as small & mediumsized bio ventures.
